Transfer Opportunities

Basic Camp

Transfer college students can compete for a two-year scholarship through Army ROTC department by attending Basic Camp during the summer prior to your first semester at Appalachian State University. Basic Camp is a paid, month-long course at Ft. Knox KY in which all travel, food, and housing are paid for. By attending Basic Camp you will learn the basics of what it is to be an Army Officer to include basic military tactics, land navigation, rifle marksmanship, and leadership. By attending Basic Camp you owe the military and ROTC no obligation whatsoever. But should you decide that becoming an Army Officer is for you, then you can contract the beginning of your junior year.

For those students transferring in with a North Carolina Associates degree, you will receive the added bonus of being exempt from taking Appalachian State University general education requirements.

If you decide to contract you will take military science classes your junior and senior year, then when you graduate you will become an officer in the Army. This gives you a guaranteed, well-paying job, with a solid foundation of leadership and management credentials the corporate world is looking for.

Transferring In as a Sophmore (first semester)

We average about 5-10 transfer students every semester. If you have military or JROTC experience-- we can give you constructive Credit for any semesters you may have missed in SROTC. If you have none, then we compress or "double you up" with both Military Science 1 and 2. That equates to 3 credit hours a semester--the same credit hours of most courses. The key will be to assess your individual situation and how many total credit hours you transfer in with.
