Cadets Nevejas, Navarro, Cannon, Brown and Brion earned the coveted Appalachian Commando Tab. It is a significant accomplishment that culminated in a ruck march up Howard’s Knob overlooking Boone. After a week of military skills training and physical assessments, the five joined other club members in the annual Commando Bivouac. The Bivouac was initiated by a 7-mile mountainous hike on the Appalachian Trail followed by patrolling in the Cherokee National Forest over forty hours. Elevation was as high as 4900 and temperatures as low as 19 degrees. Throughout a resolute aggressor squad opposed them. The Club was founded in 1972 by Ranger Hall of Fame inductee William T. Palmer. It is “not for the weak or fainthearted”!
