Veteran’s Weekend and Day were busy on the Mountain! Friday was the last day of a 2-day training exercise that culminated in the contracting ceremony of Cadets Lynch, Flay and Myers(D) (Pictured Below). All are in the National Guard and were activated for response support to Hurricane Helene. Additionally, Cadet Meyers lost much of his college belongings in the storm.
On Saturday, the Scabbard & Blade Club assisted the Military Officers Association of America with planting American flags on the graves of fallen service members from Watauga County at Mount Lawn Cemetery. (Some Club members and placements are pictured below).
Veteran’s Day on Monday involved the Pershing Rifles providing the Color Guard for the University Ceremony (pictured below) in which Cadet Hoffman served as the Narrator. Photo courtesy of University Communications.
Cadet Bowland, Myers (K) and Rogers (picutred below) traveled to Washington DC for a memorial service honoring the First World War. Representatives from Australia, France, Belgium, Serbia, and the Pershing Rifles presented wreaths at the World War 1 Monument. Cadet Rogers conducted a 21-ring bell salute. The three are National Leaders of the Pershing Rifle Society.
