Ranger Challenge 2016

Ranger Challenge is a ROTC competition designed to test schools on their tactical, technical, and physical ability in individual and squad level tasks. As a senior, I have been a part of this team for 3 years and this year I had the honor of being the team captain. I was placed in charge of selection, the tryout process, and training the 11 person team to compete against roughly 40 other schools in 4th Brigade ROTC. Some of the skills tested include a one rope bridge, knock out a bunker, react to contact, handgun and rifle marksmanship, assembly and disassembly of weapons and knot tying-- just to name some of them. The team endured a physically strenuous tryout process before undergoing a 5 day a week training regimen to prepare us for the competition. The culminating competition occurred in a full day event--- completing these tasks all the while moving a total of about 19 miles with a 40 plus pound rucksack. Ranger Challenge is the premier tactical, technical, and physical test in ROTC. To be competitive it takes an extreme amount of physical fitness and tactical proficiency. My experience in Ranger Challenge has helped me to be more proficient in my individual and squad level skills necessary to be a successful Army officer. Cadet (Senior) Brian Wilson.
