App Administrator visits Cadet Training at Fort Knox

Appalachian State ROTC recently arranged for Brady Rourke, Executive Director of the Student Learning Center here at Appalachian, to participate in the Cadet Command Centers of Influence (COI) visit at Fort Knox from June 12-June 15. His reflections on the visit:

“The Centers of Influence (COI) experience at Cadet Command in Fort Knox affirmed my belief that ROTC provides exceptional leadership development opportunities for students. The experience provided a behind-the-scenes perspective of Army Officer training programs and the impressive mental and physical training students engage in during cadet advanced camp. I had the honor and privilege of meeting impressive and respected military leaders including Appalachian State University graduate and Brigadier General John R. Evans. Others I had the honor of learning from and interacting with include:

LTC Chris Kleman – Professor of Military Science, Appalachian State University

LTC Eric Durrant – Professor of Military Science, Campbell University

LTC Stephen Magner – Professor of Military Science, UMass Amherst

LTC Tim LaBahn – Professor of Military Science, IUPUI

Army ROTC and Cadet Command teach the fundamentals of success, especially when leading and working as a member of a team. Officers are trained to overcome fears, think critically, embrace challenges, and become leaders for life. My experience at Fort Knox has sparked an even greater appreciation and respect for military affairs. It is my goal to promote ROTC and JROTC programs as phenomenal programs, which teach critical life skills necessary for life-long learning and success. The opportunity to experience the training first-hand is a milestone moment that I will cherish forever.”
