We train, not deterred by temperature or terrain! APP ROTC’s Fall FTX (October) began with weapons training at the Watauga Gun Club on Thursday the 15th.

On Friday, two Blackhawk helicopters from the North Carolina National Guard Charlie Company, 1st Battalion, 131st Aviation Regiment picked up contracted Cadets at Brookshire Park and air-inserted them at the NC Forest Service Mountain Training Facility.

En route, LTC Jones administered the Oath of Enlistment to Cadets Quinlan and Laney.

The lead helicopter, in which the ceremony took place, was piloted by two App ROTC alumni, Major Hosak (2010) and Lieutenant Medlin (2024).
Friday afternoon’s training consisted of round-robin station training on various military skills. Friday evening concluded with squad land navigation. Saturday training involved tactical lanes and patrol base operations.

On Sunday, the training concluded with a Battalion Mountain Run in freezing temperatures.

Followed by the enlistment ceremony for Cadets Pioquinto and Palmer.

Then a hearty breakfast in the Forest Service Dining facility prior to returning to Boone and recovery operations.
