Major (P) Zach Jones

Major (Promotable) Zach Jones assumed duties as Professor of Military Science in August 2025. Commissioned as an Infantry Officer through the Iowa State University Army ROTC program in 2009, Major Jones holds a Bachelor of Science in Music Performance, a Master of Science in Military Operational Studies from the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College, and a Master of Arts in International and Interagency Studies from the University of Kansas. His Master’s thesis examined the strategic threat posed by Chinese artificial intelligence to global security.

Major Jones has served in Light Infantry, Stryker, and Special Operations formations, and has commanded two companies in the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault). His previous assignments include: Platoon Leader, 25th Infantry Division; Company Observer/Controller/Trainer, Joint Readiness Training Center, Fort Polk, LA; Company Commander, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, KY; assignments with U.S. Army Special Operations Command, Fort Bragg, NC; Battalion Executive Officer and Operations Officer, 4th Infantry Division; Executive Officer to the 4th Infantry Division Commanding General; and Battalion Executive Officer / Brigade Operations Officer, 4th Security Force Assistance Brigade, Fort Carson, CO. Most recently, he served as the Garrison Plans Officer at Fort Carson.

Throughout his career, Major Jones has deployed to Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, and Eastern Europe supporting combat and strategic operations alongside U.S., allied, and partnered forces.
