MSG Hawthorne joined the Army out of San Diego, California on 16 October 1996. He attended basic training at Ft Benning, Georgia with 1/19 INF Regiment. He was assigned as an 11B to 3/502 INF Regt. at Ft Campbell, KY in February 1997. He was then selected into the 101st Pathfinder Company in August of 1999 where he served on a Combat Search and Rescue team as a medic and an Assistant Team Leader. After successful completion of Special Forces Assessment and Selection and the Special Forces Qualification Course he was assigned to Operational Detachment Alpha 3215, 2nd Bn, 3rd SFG(A) in November of 2003. He served on ODA 3215 from November of 2003 until December of 2012 where he was assigned as a Junior Weapons Sergeant, Senior Weapons Sergeant, Intelligence Sergeant and Operations Sergeant. While on ODA 3215 MSG Hawthorne deployed on five combat rotations and multiple other OCONUS deployments. After his Operations Sergeant time on ODA 3215 he was selected to serve as the NCOIC of the Maritime Operations Committee, Advanced Skills Company, Group Support Battalion, 3rd SFG(A). His Committee was responsible for all Maritime training conducted by 3rd SFG(A) to include; Combat Swimmers Course (Pre-scuba), Waterborne Infiltration Courses and Level I Dive Re-qualifications. At the Maritime Operations Committee his additional duties were Group Senior Dive Supervisor and Group Diving Officer.
MSG Hawthorne is a graduate of the Air Assault School, Ranger School, Airborne School, Pathfinder School, Static Line Jumpmaster, Combat Diver Qualification Course, Naval Dive Supervisor Course, Special Forces Weapons Sergeant Course, Special Forces Intelligence Sergeant Course, SERE High Risk (Level C), Special Forces Advanced Recon Target Analysis and Exploitations Techniques Course, Advanced Land Navigation Course, Warrior Leaders Course, Advanced Leaders Course and Senior Leaders Course.
MSG Hawthorne's awards and decorations include; Air Assault Badge, Senior Parachutist Badge, Pathfinder Badge, Special Operations Diver Badge, Special Operations Diving Supervisor Badge, Expert Infantryman Badge, Combat Infantryman Badge, Bronze Star with Valorous Device, Bronze Star Medal x4, Purple Heart, Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Good Conduct Medal x5, National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal-CS, Global War on Terrorism Medal, Non-commissioned Officers Service Ribbon and the NATO Medal.
MSG Hawthorne is married and has four children.
