Major General (Ret) David G. Clarkson

Major General (Ret) David Clarkson graduated from Appalachian State University in 1982 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice. A Distinguished Military Graduate of Appalachian State University's Reserve Officers Training Corps he was concurrently commissioned as a Regular Army Second Lieutenant.

His duty assignments include:

  • Platoon Leader, Delta Company, 67th Signal Battalion at Fort Gordon
  • Battalion Maintenance Officer, 67th Signal Battalion
  • Battalion Maintenance Officer, 812th Transportation Battalion in Charlotte, North Carolina
  • Company Commander, 846th Transportation Company mobilized in support of Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm
  • Training Officer and Aide de Camp 120th Army Reserve Command
  • Battalion Executive Officer and Battalion Commander 535th Military Police Battalion
  • Group Commander 641st Regional Support Group
  • Deputy Chief of Staff for Operations (G3) 81st Regional Readiness Command
  • He assumed General Officer duties when assigned to the U.S. Army Materiel Command, Ft. Belvoir, Virginia as the Assistant Deputy Chief of Staff for Operations in August of 2008
  • He was promoted to Brigadier General in March 2009 and assumed command of the Army Reserve Sustainment Command in September 2009
  • Deputy Commanding General, 1st Sustainment Command (Theater), Kuwait and Afghanistan
  • Assistant Deputy Commanding General, Army Material Command, Redstone Arsenal, Ala.
  • Chief of Staff, US Transportation Command, Scott Air Force Base, Ill.

His awards of merit include the Legion of Merit (with Oak Leaf Cluster), Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal with (with two Oak Leaf Clusters), the Army Commendation Medal (with two Oak Leaf Clusters) and the Army Achievement Medal.
