Memorial Service to be held for Fallen Alumnus

CPT Richard Cliff

On Saturday, May 2nd at 11:00 A.M. a memorial ceremony for Captain Richard Cliff will be held to honor his memory. The memorial service will be held at the B.B. Dougherty Administration Building at Appalachian State University. Reception following the ceremony in the lobby of the admin building.

Among the attendees are Captain Richard Cliff's family and the ROTC Department. Everyone is welcome to pay their respects to Captain Cliff.

Richard Cliff, who was a Appalachian graduate of 2002, was killed in action in September of 2008.

Here’s a great story on Maj. Michele P. Harper ’93, Appalachian alumna and the first female Black Hawk pilot in the N.C. Army National Guard:

Maj. Michele P. Harper took to the skies in a UH-60 Black Hawk 16 years ago after she graduated flight school in Fort Rucker, Ala. She is currently serving in Iraq.

The Hendersonville native graduated from East Henderson High School in 1988 and double majored in math and military science at Appalachian State, graduating in 1993.

Ceremony held to Award Cadet Achievement

Mountaineer Battalion Takes the Cold Plunge

Thursday, Febrauary 26th App State Army ROTC Cadets participated in the 8th Annual Polar Plunge to raise money for the Special Olympics. The Mountaineer Battalion raised over eight hundred dollars and had over forty cadets as well as their Commander, LTC Kilgore, take the icy plunge into Duck Pond. The Commando Team began the event with a rope bridge that extended the width of the pond and then the plunging commenced starting with the ROTC Battalion.
