On 9 Oct 2009 Appalachian State University celebrated Homecoming. Some ROTC alumni were present for the Homecoming Football Game. ROTC had a tent set up at the Quinn Center for Alumni to kick back and catch up before the start of the game. Appalachian State Mountaineers hosted N.C. Central at Kidd Brewer Stadium and the Mountaineers were able to breeze past the Eagles to a 55-21 victory. The Mountaineer Battalion also tailgates every home football game at Duck Pond Field and welcomes any ROTC Alumni who want to come out and enjoy Mountaineer Football.
On May 8th, 2009 eight cadets from Appalachian State University commissioned into the United States Army. By participating in ASU’s Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) program these cadets, upon commissioning, became second lieutenants. On August 8, 2009 ASU ROTC will hold another commissioning ceremony for cadets graduating this Summer.

The Appalachian State Mountaineer Battalion gathered Friday night at the Broyhill Inn for an evening celebrating the commissioning seniors and another great year completed by the ROTC cadets. Along with the ROTC cadets and cadre, family and special guests attended such as the Military Officers Association of America. The guest speaker (pictured) was CPT Brian Grimsley, the older brother of one of our senior cadets Joshua Grimsley.
The senior cadets were recognized at the end of the night. They stood before the mess and were pinned with their branch insignia on their uniforms by their chosen loved ones. Eight cadets will be graduating this May, nine in August, and three in December.
